St. Mary’s University (SMU) hosted the 20th National Student Research Forum on July 30, 2026, at its Main Campus. Organized by the University’s Research and Knowledge Management Office (RaKMO), the annual forum, themed “By Students, for Students,” continued its long-standing tradition of providing a platform for undergraduate students to present and discuss their research findings.

For the past two decades, the Student Research Forum has served as an important venue for academic exchange, enabling students to showcase their scholarly work, engage in intellectual discussions, and learn from one another.

The event commenced with an opening address by Ato Behailu Tamiru, Academic Vice President of St. Mary’s University, who emphasized that the forum offers students a valuable opportunity to gain experience in presenting research in a professional conference setting. He also highlighted the importance of research in fostering critical thinking, innovation, and evidence-based problem-solving among students.

True to its motto, the forum was entirely student-centered. Students served as Masters of Ceremony, chairpersons, and rapporteurs throughout the event, demonstrating their leadership, communication, and organizational skills while gaining practical experience for their future professional careers.

The forum featured seven student research presentations covering diverse fields, including Human Resource Management, Retail Business Analysis, Finance and Investor Protection, Consumer Behavior, E-Commerce, and Information Systems.

Following each presentation session, participants actively engaged in discussions, raising questions and providing constructive feedback. These interactions allowed presenters to elaborate on their findings and receive valuable recommendations from fellow students and attendees.

The forum concluded with closing remarks by Matheas Shimelis (Ass. Prof), Director of the Research and Knowledge Management Office, who expressed his appreciation to all student researchers, organizers, chairpersons, rapporteurs, and participants for contributing to the success of the event. He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to strengthening research culture and creating opportunities for students to develop their academic and professional competencies.

The successful organization of the 20th National Student Research Forum once again underscored St. Mary’s University’s dedication to promoting student research, knowledge sharing, and academic excellence.
